Hope your holidays were awesome! Mine was pretty great. We hosted Christmas dinner at our home for the first time in the nearly fourteen years we’ve been here. We did Christmas breakfast once, but this was the first dinner. Ham, mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes, and corn. Yum!
I’ve got another week and a half off from the day job… now that the mad rush to clean house for guests for dinner yesterday is over with, I can spend the rest of the time just sitting around and vegging out… Just kidding. While I will probably lounge around today a bit, there is still plenty for me to do. I have a watercolor painting to finish for a Christmas/Birthday gift – I have until Saturday to finish it, more like Friday probably so it can dry and then I will get it framed. Some of our house cleaning consisted of carting “stuff” from one room to another just to get it out of the way, so there is still that to deal with. Some will go to recycling (empty boxes), some will be set aside for donations (old toys, etc.), and whatever is left, either find a place to store it or display it, or trash it. My daughter’s room is a disaster, so we’ll spend probably at least a good day going through her stuff and sorting in keep/donate/garbage piles.
Today, as mentioned, is for a bit of a rest, enjoying my foot massager I received as a gift from my husband… a requested one – I have issues with my right heel, that I guess is a bit like plantar fasciitis but the podiatrist I saw never actually said that was what it is. The Mayo Clinic’s definition of that pretty much describes what I experience exactly, so I’m not really sure why the podiatrist didn’t just say that is what it was. Anyway, it’s a heated massager, and it’s quite nice. Hope I don’t burn it out in less than three months from overuse. Haha!
Today is also my daughter’s first appointment with a dentist for a checkup. I’ve been a bit of a slacker with getting her in to see one. Hope she checks out with little to no cavities.
One of my other gifts was a Kitchen Aid stand mixer (also a request). We used it yesterday to make the mashed potatoes. I had a request for homemade cookies now that I have the mixer. Although my daughter is oddly not thrilled with the idea of making them – she was not who requested the cookies – I still may stop at the store on the way home to get some ingredients to mix up a batch, even if I don’t start baking any until after 7p since using the oven before then would be hitting on-peak demand hours which I’d rather avoid doing.
I’m trying to decide whether to start taking down the Christmas decorations tomorrow or wait on that until January 1st. The wrapping paper and stuff can be put away before then though. Depending on whether I start on completing that painting today will determine if that gets put away sooner rather than later. Most of it got stashed in my office/studio, among other “stuff” that was moved in the cleaning of the main areas of the house. My office usually has a bit of clutter in it (a lot, my husband would say), but what is in there now is even too much for me. I am not really sure I can sit in there and paint with all that extra stuff stored there. So I may be cleaning it out before doing much on the painting.
Then, after the post-holiday cleaning and purging is done and the painting is done, I am thinking of maybe doing a redesign here. This one has been up for a year, so I think it’s about time to do something fresh, but I haven’t thought about it very much so I’m not quite sure what I’ll do with it. Maybe something simple and clean…
Anyway, now it’s time to get ready to go to the dentist. I’ll have a lot of paperwork to fill out since this is will be her first visit.
