I design WordPress blogs built on the Genesis framework; I have also worked with the Theme Hybrid framework. I can also design for Blogger, although I do not currently have any packages available for it, so that will need a custom quote. I also have designed on ExpressionEngine (EE), which is another CMS (content management system), that tends to be more secure than the free open source WordPress, as EE is a commercial product. I am not able to design for any other platforms than those mentioned at this time, aside from standalone HTML.
I currently work full time outside of the home, which means my regular business hours are limited to a few hours in the mornings, evenings and the weekends. I have access to my business email while I am at my regular job, so I may reply if I am able to, but I cannot guarantee that I always can do so during the day. As such, I am advising that I aim to reply to any emails I receive within 48 hours.
I prefer to communicate via email. Phone calls can be arranged by appointment only, however I am not doing video conferences at this time. I would ask that any emails I have sent during the design process, be responded to in a timely manner. If it takes longer than 48 hours to reply, the client will lose their spot in line and the design will be put on hold while I move on to another client.
- Client fills out “Get a Quote” form.
- We provide a quote from our project management system, 17Hats.
- Upon acceptance and digital signing, we will provide a contract via 17Hats.
- Upon acceptance & digital signing by both parties, we will provide an invoice, also from 17Hats, where a 50% deposit is required before work can begin.
- We will also provide an invitation to a system called Asana, it allows us to converse, provide files and such outside of email, but it can also be done via email to that system, if that is the Client’s preference. It keeps things tidy and in one place for us.
The contract will also cover additional things not mentioned on this Terms of Design page, and some things that are, in more detail.
Payments are accepted via PayPal (no e-Checks, please, as those will only delay the design process), or Stripe via 17Hats. A 50% deposit for quotes over $200 is required in order to reserve the client’s place in line. Quotes under $200, payment is required in full. Payment schedules can be arranged if necessary, however payment in full of the remaining balance due is required before the final design can be installed.
During the waiting period before design work begins, if for any reason a refund is desired, please either email me immediately or fill out the following form to request it. A 5% cancellation fee will be deducted from your refund for the inconvenience to To the Moon Web Design.
Once design work has begun on the client’s project, refunds will not be issued, no exceptions.
The nature of designing a website or blog dictates that I will be required to access the client’s site during the process once the design is completed and ready for installation. This typically means the client will need to provide a username and password to the webhost for self-hosted WordPress or ExpressionEngine. I recommend changing to a temporary password until the design is finalized and has gone live. If the client chooses not to change any passwords, please note that all information is held privately and will not be shared, and is deleted after the installation and any additional touch up work has been completed. If you already have WordPress or ExpressionEngine installed, I would need a username with admin privileges. However, do not create one that is named “Admin”. That is a common username that hackers will frequently use to try to gain access to your sites.
Before installation begins, it is the client’s responsibility to back up all files that will be impacted by the work being done by me. This includes any WordPress related files, and its database. If you need any assistance with this process, you can hire me at my hourly rate of $45/hr, one hour minimum.
Once the design is completed and ready for installation, the client shall be notified and asked what time would work best, based around my available schedule. The site will potentially be out service or look a bit odd during this time and is considered to be under construction. Sometimes certain widgets and plugins may end up incompatible with the design; I will try to do my best to accommodate them when possible, but I cannot guarantee 100% compatibility for every widget or plugin.
To the Moon Web Design will not be responsible for any loss of data during the installation process, perceived or real. As noted in the Installation section, it is the clients sole responsibility to create a back up of the site before installation begins. I can be hired at my hourly rate if the client is unable to do this on their own.
Copyright and Design Credit
Any images used in the client’s design must be obtained via legal means (i.e. purchased) or be owned by the client. To the Moon Web Design will presume that any images sent to me for use in your design are legally owned and cannot be held liable in the event that they were obtained by non-legal means unbeknownst to me. I use resources such as MyGrafico, and iStockphoto to purchase graphic elements to use in my designs, or create the necessary graphics myself.
When the design is complete, credit in the form of a link, and optionally a graphic button (but not instead of the link), are to be placed at the bottom of the site, or sidebar if a button, and is not to be removed unless your site is redesigned and our design is removed.
To the Moon Web Design will work to see that the client’s site design will work in the latest versions of Chrome, Firefox, and Safari at the time the design is installed. I will not guarantee the look of a site in Internet Explorer.
When I finish a design, I like to share it on our Blog and add a screenshot to our Portfolio for future clients to visit and get a feel for my work; sometimes a link will be provided to the client’s site. If for any reason you do not want your site to be linked, or the design added to the portfolio, please bring this up during the design process and before everything is finalized, so that I know to leave it out.
Extras – Images, Fonts
As noted in the Copyright section, I use resources such as MyGrafico and iStockphoto for image and design elements used in the designs created by To the Moon Web Design. If the client wishes to supply photographs, that is permitted but the copyright must be owned by the client, or permissions given by the photographer to use their photo on your site.
The fonts I use are typically going to be Google Web Fonts, or fonts purchased as a commercial license from resources such as MyFonts.com. If there is a specific font that you would like me to use in your design and it requires a license, please let me know the name of the font and where you found it. Fonts will be purchased and retained by To the Moon Web Design for use on your design and in other future client designs. Alternately, you may purchase the font and provide it to To the Moon Web Design for use in your design. If such an arrangement is used, the font will be deleted from my computers once the design is completed and the font will be yours to keep.
If there is a waiting list for design work, I will notify the client upon reply to the quote request with information about approximately how many clients are ahead of your request, and about how long your wait may be estimated to be. If the time supplied is not acceptable to you, please make this known before paying any deposit. I may be able to assist you with finding another designer with a shorter waiting period who may suit your needs.
