So, I’m sitting in my office, working on my new contact form (which I may or may not stick with, plugin-wise), and my husband is in his, playing GuildWarsII, and we suddenly hear that dreaded, evil, “if it were the middle of the night you’d pick up a shoe and throw it at your ceiling” CHIRP!!
That annoying notification from your friendly smoke detector saying, “HEY! HEY YOU! MY BATTERY IS DYING!”
And of course, we have no fresh 9 volt batteries on hand, because honestly, what else besides an occasional RC car remote control is going to need a 9 volt battery? And the only RC remotes we have, use triple A batteries, anyway.
Did I mention we have 14 foot ceilings? And the fated smoke detector was in the main living area, at the highest point of our vaulted ceilings. Cue the 10 foot ladder. Also? I’m afraid of heights… relative to the height of what I may be standing on. 10 foot ladder, not so bad, but still a little unnerving. The platform over Meteor Crater? That is virtually incapacitating. I couldn’t go on it, and watching my husband and daughter walk out over it very nearly gave me an anxiety attack.
But I digress.
At least the smoke detector didn’t wait until 3am to start it’s “change my battery!” chirp. I think this is the first time in the 13 years we’ve lived here that any of them have ever done this during waking hours.
