Since I’m new to designing sites for anyone but myself, I asked for volunteers amongst my online friends, for anyone who wanted to have their site redesigned, or set up from scratch, by me, free of charge. I need the practice.
I’ve been working on one for most of today, I think it’s just about done but the site owner needs to look it over and decide if there are any changes she’d like me to do before calling it done.
Until then, I’ll have to refrain from posting further details here until the green light is given and it’s officially launched.
I’m also starting to go over the Q&A from a second volunteer, to get an idea of what I may do with that one. And since I’m off all this week from my day job, depending on how long this second one takes, I may start a third.
The first one started off on WordPress.com, but we quickly found that it is extremely limited at what can be customized… Just the background and header, unless $30 is coughed up for customization… which only frees up about 50 web fonts, custom color palettes, and the ability to dig into the CSS, but from what I could tell, that’s it. Pretty sad. So, she opted to go self-hosted and I set up a WordPress install, which is infinitely more customizable. 🙂
The next one will be for Blogger, which will be new for me as I’ve never designed for it before. It should be interesting, I think!
